Students will learn to model and "tweak" faces using push-molds with several different cellulose and polymer clays (Cernit, PuppenFIMO, Super Sculpey, Friendly Clay, LaDoll, Priemier, Creative Paperclay, Diamond Paperclay, etc.) so that they can experience the difference in working properties of the various brands. Students will learn face coloring techniques with makeup and acrylic paint and how it varies with the surface characteristics of the various brands of clay. Students will make several faces, sets of hands and feet and learn the basics of working with the clays.
Samples of several brands of new clay (cellulose and polymer), Mimi's New Clays for Dollmaking (book), orange stick, sanding pads (four grits), handout, plastic bags for keeping clay dry and clean, and hair material. If the student already has the book, kit fee is only $15.
Sculpting tools, use of over 50 different push molds, paper cups, paper plates, acetone, alcohol, lemon oil, brushes, makeup, acrylic paint, pin backs, low-melt glue guns and glue.
Sculpting tools (only if owned, do not purchase for this class), paint brushes (000 or 00 round), makeup (rouge and eyeshadow), lo-melt glue gun and glue (only if owned, do not purchase for this class. Students should bring container or box to transport work home for curing. (Cigar or candy boxes or similar flat, shallow container.) Notebook and pencil for notetaking.
